The second week of this magical readathon is now over. It feels like time is moving so fast. I didn't finish as many exams this week as I did in the first week, but I still managed to read a couple of books. Right now I'm working my way through Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor for the Transfiguration exam. And guys, this book is exactly what I want right now. Why did I wait two years to read it?? Exams Completed As you can tell from the two exams I completed this past week, I went all out on the Ancient Greek front. My book for the History of Magic is pretty historic, which is kind of perfect. Not very magical though, but my pick for Ancient Runes was. I'm still on top of my tbr and … [Read more...]
The Reading Year in Review: 2017
This previous year has been surprisingly productive for me. I started this blog and I've been actively using it since late April 2017. A feat I never thought possible with my poor track record of maintaining interest in, well, basically anything. I rarely get bored from lack of ideas or entertainment. I get bored with things. Usually very quickly in fact. It's good for generating ideas and thinking outside the box, but not so great for keeping a book blog alive. Don't get me wrong, it hasn't been easy. These following quotes have stuck with me because of the impact they've had on my life, so … [Read more...]
Top Five: Favorite Audiobook Narrators
One of my favorite activities is to go for a walk while listening to an audiobook. Hell, I like listening when I clean, empty the dishwasher, do laundry, really just when I'm doing something potentially boring. It's a great way to be productive while at the same time being absorbed in a book and let's be real, if you're reading this that is what you love most. But the enjoyment of an audiobook often depends as much on the performance of the narrator as the actual story. Five Stephen Fry is just great, I really enjoyed his performance of the first Sherlock Holmes book, A Study in Scarlet by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. He narrates Sherlock Holmes: The Definitive collection, which is 72 hours … [Read more...]
Favorites: April 2017
April was a great month. I participated in Tome Topple and met some great bookish people on twitter. I tried to stay awake for Dewey's 24 hour readathon and failed. I read a lot of graphic novels and I discovered something wonderful that had been there all along. I've collected my favorite things from the past month in the following list. Overdrive. I finally got a library card and discovered that my library have some really great books available online. When I found out, I spent two whole hours just browsing and adding to my wishlist for future me to enjoy. The book community on twitter. I found out that there are some great people out there who loves books just as much as I … [Read more...]
