Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly thing hosted by Sam from Thoughts on Tomes. You can find more information about past and upcoming topics in the GoodReads group. This week's topic is books that we're thankful for. It was hard to choose which ones to include, but these are without a doubt books I'm truly thankful for. 5 — Crow: From The Life and Songs of The Crow by Ted HughesIt offered me comfort at a time of grief. I can't quite put my finger on why I feel so deeply for this poetry collection. Perhaps it's the mythical nature of the character of Crow, I honestly can't say. It has a special place in my heart none the less. 4 — The Lonely City: Adventures in the Art of Being Alone by Olivia … [Read more...]
The TBR Book Tag
The TBR book tag was created by Rachel from the A Perfection Called Books way back in 2014. I've been looking for a fun tag to do and I thought this one would be great, so here we are! How do you keep track of your TBR pile? I don't have a specific place for my unread books on my shelves. I've considered dividing them into read and unread, but I've been too lazy to actually take all of my books off of the shelves and organize them. I remember which books I've read, so it's not a problem for me to quickly pick an unread book off of my shelves anyway. I also really like reading on my kindle, so I have some tbr books there as well. Besides the ones that I own, there's my GoodReads tbr. … [Read more...]
T5W: Books Featuring Mythical Creatures
Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly thing hosted by Sam from Thoughts on Tomes. You can find more information about past and upcoming topics in the GoodReads group. I'm going to have to cheat a little bit, because I don't have enough books for just one creature. So instead, I'm sharing my top five books featuring mythical creatures in general. Before I bore you too much, let's get into the list. 5 — Storm Front by Jim Butcher The first book in the Dresden Files series is not the best book in the series according to most reviews I've come across. It is, none the less, a good supernatural crime mystery novel, which sets up the characters and the world that's expanded upon in the rest of the series. … [Read more...]
T5W: Favorite Creepy Settings
Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly thing hosted by Sam from Thoughts on Tomes. You can find more information about past and upcoming topics in the GoodReads group. 5 — Babs Yagg's Store, Vassa in The Night by Sarah Porter Inspired by Russian folklore, namely Vasilisa The Beautiful and Baba Yaga, this strange and creepy book is great for fans of, well, strangeness and Russian folklore. The main character, Vassa, has a living doll who lives in her pocket, and the penalty for shoplifting at the local convenience store is beheading. It sounds weird, but it works. It's dark and whimsical at the same time. I liked it so much that I read the entire thing in one sitting, which I rarely do. 4 — The … [Read more...]
T5W: Books Featuring Witches
Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly thing hosted by Sam from ThoughtsOnTomes. This week's topic is, as the title indicates, books featuring witches. I had a hard time figuring out which books I wanted to include. After looking through GoodReads and my own shelves, I realized that I haven't read as many books with witches as I thought I had, and of the ones I did read, I only really liked a few of them. I've always been fascinated with magic, but, much to my dismay, I've mostly seen tv shows with witches in them rather than reading books about witches. I'll have to change that in the future. But until then, here are my top five books featuring witches. 5 — The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding by … [Read more...]
A to Z Bookish Survey
Today I'm doing the A to Z Bookish Survey created by Jamie from perpetualpageturner.com. I decided to do this because I wanted to do something fun, as I'm currently a bit behind on writing reviews. What better way to get ahead than do something other than the stuff you ought to do, right? A — Author you've read the most books from Definitely Charlaine Harris. I've read all of the Sookie Stackhouse books, the Midnight, Texas series, the Harper Connelly series, and a couple of the Aurora Teagarden books. That comes to a total of 26 books and I plan on reading everything she comes out with. Also, if you didn't know Midnight, Texas is now a TV show on NBC. B — Best sequel ever The … [Read more...]
Mid-year Book Freak Out Tag 2017
Today I decided to do my very first tag on the blog. It's already a fantastic reading year for me and I can't imagine that'll change. So far I've read over 80 books and to be honest I did not see it coming, especially since it feels like I've done so many other things besides reading. This tag was created back in 2015 by Chami (ReadLikeWildfire) and Ely (Earl Grey Books) on youtube. I think it's a great way to reflect a bit on what I've read these past six months. I can rarely pick just one book, but I'll try to cut my answers down to the books I feel need to be included. Enough explaining. Here we go! Best book you've read so far in 2017 I've read so many amazing books already … [Read more...]
