The TBR book tag was created by Rachel from the A Perfection Called Books way back in 2014. I’ve been looking for a fun tag to do and I thought this one would be great, so here we are!
How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
I don’t have a specific place for my unread books on my shelves. I’ve considered dividing them into read and unread, but I’ve been too lazy to actually take all of my books off of the shelves and organize them. I remember which books I’ve read, so it’s not a problem for me to quickly pick an unread book off of my shelves anyway.
I also really like reading on my kindle, so I have some tbr books there as well. Besides the ones that I own, there’s my GoodReads tbr. I honestly don’t remember most of the books on there, but it’s filled with books that I wanted to read at one time or another as well as some I still really want to read.
Is your TBR mostly print or ebook?
I haven’t counted how many unread books I own, but I think the majority are physical books. Maybe I should write them all down, so that I’ll have an overview of which books I need to read. Who am I kidding, I will never be that organized.
How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
I’m a mood reader, which is why I can never stick to a planned TBR. Basically what I do is not very complicated. I finish a book, then I look at my shelves or on my kindle for which one I’m feeling the most and then I start reading. If I’m doing a readathon that has set challenges, I try to find a book that fits the challenge at hand. Most are vague enough that there will be a couple of books that fit, which I can then choose from.
A Book That’s Been On Your TBR List The Longest
I’m going to have to say The Lord of the Rings series by J. R. R. Tolkien for this one. I’ve wanted to read the books for years, but they’re so dense and description heavy that I haven’t gotten around to it yet.
A Book You Recently Added To Your TBR
The most recent books I’ve added to my collection of unread books is Dusk or Dark or Dawn or Day by Seanan McGuire. I’m not exactly sure what it’s about, but from what I can tell it’s about ghosts in New York. I’m a big fan of paranormal urban fantasy, which this definitely sounds like.
A Book In Your TBR Strictly Because Of Its Beautiful Cover
I’m a sucker for beautiful covers, which means that I have bought several books solely based on the aesthetics. One of many is Birthday Letters by Ted Hughes. I’ve only read Crow: From the Life and Songs of the Crow by him, and then I found it to be one of the only poetry collections that I’ve ever connected to. It’s a favorite, so when I found the edition of Birthday Letters with the embroidered flower, I bought it immediately.
A Book On Your TBR That You Never Plan on Reading
I’m stubborn. I technically plan to read every single book I currently own and the books I buy in the future. But, let’s be real. I’m never going to attempt to read The Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin again. I didn’t finish the first book because I thought the show was better, so I’m most likely never going to read the series, ever.
An Unpublished Book On Your TBR That You’re Excited For
The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert has been called perfect for fans of The Magicians by Lev Grossman. I’m a huge fan, so when I heard that I had to know more about it. It follows 17-year-old Alice as she is sucked into the dark fairytale world that her recently deceased grandmother’s stories are set. I’m so ready for this book.
A Book On Your TBR That Basically Everyone’s Read But You
I would say The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer. It’s been popular for so long and I still haven’t read it. I got the entire series as a gift for my birthday, which I was and still am very excited about. Now I just need to read it.
A Book On Your TBR That Everyone Recommends To You
Based on my reading preferences, The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman should be perfect for me. Or at least that’s what I’ve been told. It has witches, science stuff and it critically discusses religion. Aurora won’t shut up about, and that’s (usually) a good sign. Hehe.
A Book On Your TBR That You’re Dying To Read
The book I’m most excited to get to right now is the third installment in The Diviners series by Libba Bray, namely Before the Devil Breaks You. I’ve talked about the series a lot lately. I love the characters, the setting and most importantly I appreciate the portrayal of society. The author doesn’t glaze over the racial discrimination that dominated at that time. It’s easy to pick and choose which elements of the past to include and which to ignore, but I think this series does a good job including the inhumane persecution of people of color in the 1920s.
How many books are on your TBR shelf?
Oh no, you’re making me count them. Well, I like you guys, so I did it. As of November 2017, I have a total of 521 books on my tbr. That number includes both physical books and ebooks.
Have you read any of these books? How many books do you have on your tbr?
