Tome Topple is an amazing readathon hosted by Sam from ThoughtsOnTomes over on youtube. It’s all about reading those long books that just sits there on the shelf, staring, wanting to be read, but who never gets picked because of their daunting size. So basically, the only rules are that you can only read novels or graphic novels over 500 pages. Anthologies are not allowed, as they generally aren’t as intimidating because the whole 500+ pages isn’t one single story.
This round runs from August 4th to August 17th. And for the first time ever there are instagram challenges in addition to the usual reading challenges.
1. Read more than 1 tome
2. Read a graphic novel (still over 500 pages!)
3. Read a tome that is part of a series
4. Buddy read a tome
5. Read an adult novel
I’m aiming to complete most of the challenges, but I’m not going to put a specific book on each. Instead I’ve listed the books I own over 500 pages that I’m most excited to read. And now here are the intimidatingly large books I plan on (hopefully) reading during Tome Topple:
Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare (701 pages)
I’ve been meaning to read it since it came out in May. I even did a release celebration post, I mean come on, why haven’t I gotten around to it yet? I recently reread Lady Midnight, and am now writing a spoiler filled review for it, which I hope to finish and post in a week or so.
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas (626 pages)
I’m working hard trying to finish ACOTAR in order to continue on to this book. I keep hearing great things about this one. It’s supposed to have some serious Hades and Persephone vibes, which is basically perfection. So yeah, I’m very much excited about finally reading this one.
A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas (705 pages)
Since I’ll be reading the second book in the series, I thought I might as well read the last one in the series that wraps up Feyre’s storyline.
The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson (1007 pages)
This has been on my tbr for a long time. I don’t even remember what it’s about, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to be right up my alley. Tome Topple is the perfect time to get to it, it’s ginormous.
The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell (512 pages)
This book probably has the most gorgeous cover of the year. It’s filled with magic and set in New York, that alone makes me very excited.
Abbadon’s Gate by James S.A. Corey (539 pages)
I read the first two books in The Expanse series during the last round of Tome Topple, so I thought it’d be great to continue the series this round. It’s a kind of like a mix between a space opera and crime noir, it’s awesome and I’m excited to get to this one.
The Secret History by Donna Tartt (559 pages)
This is one of those books I know I’m going to love, but I haven’t picked up yet because I want to read it at the perfect time, without distraction. I saw somewhere that The Secret History is perfect for fans of Lev Grossman’s The Magicians, and that’s honestly all I need to persuade me to read it.
I guess I got a little carried away there, and as you might know if you’ve been following my blog for a while I am very bad at sticking to a tbr. I’m definitely not going to be able to read all of those books, but I do want to at least get through the first three on the list. Wish me luck. I plan on doing weekly or one big wrap up here on the blog, depending on how much I read, and daily page count updates daily on twitter. If you’re participating in this round of Tome Topple I’d love to know what you plan on reading.
