BookTube-A-Thon 2017 begins on monday (24th - 30th of July). I'm so excited to participate this year. I did participate last year, but something came up during the middle of the week that made me unable to finish the readathon. This year I've made sure I have as much time as possible to just read and be apart of all the awesomeness. I had a hard time deciding which books to pick for the different challenges, so don't be surprised if I change it completely sometime during the week. Here is my maybe-probably TBR for the week. Read a book with a person on the cover - One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus Read a hyped book - This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab Read a book … [Read more...]
Age of Swords by Michael J. Sullivan
*I received an arc from the publisher via netgalley in exchange for an honest review* ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars. Comes out July 25th! As it is the second book in a series, this review contains spoilers from Age of Myth. If you haven't read this series yet, and you enjoy epic fantasy with great characters, do yourself a favor and pick it up. The breathtaking adventure that began in Age of Myth continues in Age of Swords as we revisit fantastic characters and meet new ones. And as the world expands beyond the borders of Dahl Rhen, the author masterfully weaves a plethora of new information into the story seamlessly. Age of Swords dives into the depths of the Art and how it works, while … [Read more...]
The Last Bookstore
One of my favorite things to do when travelling is to visit indie bookstores. While visiting family in the Los Angeles area, I made sure to drop by The Last Bookstore. It's located in DTLA, on the corner of 5th and Spring. It's definitely worth a visit as it has a wide selection of genres to choose from, as well as a relaxed and cozy atmosphere. And it doesn't hurt either that the aesthetics are pleasing and extremely instagramable. Although it is a nice store, it's filled with tourists who wants to take pictures of everything just as badly as you do. So prepare to be patient and enjoy browsing the shelves, without getting too annoyed. There's nothing like hiding between shelves of … [Read more...]
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee
The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue follows Henry "Monty" Montague on his Grand Tour around Europe accompanied by his sister and his best friend. But what he thought was going to be one big party, turns into something much more exciting and complicated. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars. Initially, I wasn't overly interested in reading The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue. But after finishing the last book in the To All The Boys I've Loved Before trilogy by Jenny Han, I wanted to read something that was both fun and romantic. I picked up the audiobook on a whim, and I absolutely freaking loved it. The audiobook version is a little shy of 11 hours long, and a tad bit less when listening to it … [Read more...]
The Reasons Why I started a Book Blog
Over the past six years I've wanted to start a blog, but I always thought it would be about photography. I had a phography blog for about two years, which I never updated regularly and that I wasn't the least bit happy about. So, I deleted it. About a year ago I started another blog, which I also lost interest in because I kept second guessing my abilities. Demanding too much of myself. Wanting to be perfect. It was always very forced in a way. I tried to fit in a box that just isn't for me. Finding my place One thing that's been consistent for me is that I've always been an avid reader. I love watching booktube and reading other blogs, but it didn't immediately cross my mind that I had … [Read more...]
Mid-year Book Freak Out Tag 2017
Today I decided to do my very first tag on the blog. It's already a fantastic reading year for me and I can't imagine that'll change. So far I've read over 80 books and to be honest I did not see it coming, especially since it feels like I've done so many other things besides reading. This tag was created back in 2015 by Chami (ReadLikeWildfire) and Ely (Earl Grey Books) on youtube. I think it's a great way to reflect a bit on what I've read these past six months. I can rarely pick just one book, but I'll try to cut my answers down to the books I feel need to be included. Enough explaining. Here we go! Best book you've read so far in 2017 I've read so many amazing books already … [Read more...]
The Alchemists of Loom by Elise Kova
Today is just going to be a short review, because I'm currently on vacation. But mainly because I don't have much to say about this book, yet I still wanted to share my thoughts. ⭐️⭐️/5 stars. The Alchemists of Loom is a steampunk fantasy novel following the infamous White Wraith, Ariana, her initiate, Florence, and a Dragon called Cvareh. Thrown together by accident, they start to form an unlikely bond that lead them into a world of trouble. The world is super interesting because of all the steampunk elements. Somehow, when I first heard about it, I didn't catch the fact that it was steampunk. And I usually don't enjoy the aesthetics of that genre, but somehow this particular book … [Read more...]
Quotes That Speak To Me On A Deeper Level
As readers we once in a while come across a sentence that just resonates with us. Quotes that stick with us, makes us think and feel. I love great writing. But it's a slippery slope, because there is a fine line between meaningful writing and trying too hard. Maybe some of these quotes will resonate with you or maybe you'll think they're pretentious, who knows. That's the beauty of having different opinions. As long as your heart is big enough to embrace differences instead of being closed minded, insisting that your personal opinion is the only truth, everything is going to turn out okay. These following quotes have stuck with me because of the impact they've had on my life, so … [Read more...]
Every Heart A Doorway by Seanan McGuire
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars. We often see books and movies about going to another world, but what happens when the adventure ends? What happens to the characters when they come home? That's what Every Heart a Doorway is about. Spanning only 173 pages, this is a very short book. Yet it manages to say much more than just the words on the pages. It presents a different side of portal fantasy, one that deals with the cruel pain of experiencing a true sense of belonging just to have it ripped away. Stripped of one's significance. Banished to a life of conformity, not knowing when, or even if there is a way back home. Hope hurts. That's what you need to learn, and fast, if you don't want … [Read more...]
Road Trip & Vacation tbr
So far I've read three of the books on my June TBR. The ones I haven't gotten to yet are still on my list, which I hope to finish before the end of the month. This is going to be a short list of books I want to enjoy while on vacation. I am pretty sure I won't be able to get to all of them, but you've got to be optimistic right? I basically just want to read all the books. I'm going on a Road Trip with a friend down the west coast starting in Portland, going all the way down to San Diego and then back to Portland. From there I'm flying to Los Angeles and staying with family for a couple of days before I go to Boston to visit another good friend. I'm so excited I can't wait. Hopefully I'll … [Read more...]
