The readers worst enemy is The infamous Reading Slump. It can infect you at any time and there’s no knowing when it will be over. The symptoms are as follows:
- Inability to finish a book, even one you might enjoy (The Reading Slump does not discriminate).
- Renders the reader unable to start a book.
- Tears of frustration.
- Misery.
Scientists have yet to discover the cause of this horrid phenomenon. Among certain groups of readers, The Reading Slump is said to have been developed and unleashed by TV worshippers in an attempt to rid the world of book lovers. I cannot confirm nor deny this claim *blink* *blink*.
We must stick together in the fight against it. We must keep reading and keep writing in order to banish this decease. Have you been struck by The Reading Slump? Here are a few suggestions of how to overcome it:
- Reread a favorite.
- Pick up something light and fun.
- Listen to an audiobook while doing chores.
- Prioritise reading time.
- Participate in a readathon.
If you’ve tried all of these and still can’t seem to either start or finish a book, take a break. BUT DON’T EVER GO TO THE DARK SIDE, TV!
This part is only for book lovers. LOOK, A SQUIRREL!
Great, now we’re alone. Let the scheming begin. I can finally tell you that The Reading Slump was in fact unleashed upon us readers by TV dwellers. Here is the ultimate (*lies*) guide to waging war against TV.
Step 1: Stop watching. I see you.
Step 2: Read the book before watching the movie or show if you must watch.
Step 3: Cancel your Netflix subscription.
Step 4: Cut off contact with all your TV loving friends.
Step 5: Bask in the bliss of being TV and Reading Slump free.
This has been a public announcement. I hope you have enjoyed it. Now back to regular programming.
